Join the Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation for the launch event of its Center for Resilient Cities and Landscapes<https://www.arch.columbia.edu/research/centers/4-center-for-resilient-cities-and-landscapes> on Tuesday, March 27, 6:00pm – 7:15pm on Columbia University’s Morningside campus. The event will combine an introduction and statement of purpose for the newly established Center for Resilient Cities and Landscapes with a panel discussion.

The Center’s inaugural project, the creation of a groundbreaking Resilience Accelerator in partnership with 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) will be described. The Resilience Accelerator aims to leverage the research, planning and design expertise at Columbia with the local knowledge and relationships of the partner cities to advance high priority resilience projects that will help cities confront the impacts of climate change.

A panel of affiliated faculty will discuss how Columbia can bridge research and policy and bring science and design expertise to real world challenges in cities around the world. Panelists will speak more broadly about urban resilience, with an emphasis on strategies from the design and infrastructure perspective. Panelists will discuss what climate hazards are unique to cities, and how new infrastructure is or isn’t resilient, looking at both nature-based and more traditional approaches. This will be a moderated discussion.

Participants:

· Sam Carter, Director, Resilience Accelerator, 100 Resilient Cities

· Radley Horton, Lamont Associate Research Professor and Co-Chair, Climate Adaptation Initiative

· Kate Orff, Director, Center for Resilient Cities and Landscapes and Principal, SCAPE

· Thaddeus Pawlowski, Managing Director, Center for Resilient Cities and Landscapes

· Courtney Smith, Program Associate, Resilience, The Rockefeller Foundation

The panel will be followed by a reception with beer, wine and light appetizers. RSVP using the link here.<https://events.columbia.edu/cal/event/eventView.do?b=de&calPath=%2Fpublic%2Fcals%2FMainCal&guid=CAL-00bbdcc7-6204df79-0162-069a1c67-00001079events@columbia.edu&recurrenceId=>
