Good morning, friends, colleagues, academics and researchers,

I come to you with a call to action:

The US Network for Democracy in Brazil (USNDB), a coalition of academics
and activists working in support of Brazilian groups fighting to preserve
democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and environmental protections
since the election of President Jair Bolsonaro, has drafted an *Open Letter
from the US academic and research community, demanding United Nations
action in support of the Amazon and its peoples. *Please share widely with
your networks, so we can gather as many signatures from academics,
researchers, and students in the United States as possible!

*Here is the link to the letter, in Google Forms:

We hope to present this letter in support of a petition shared by various
environmental, indigenous, and human rights coalitions and organizations
(and coordinated with the help of Defend Democracy in Brazil and USNDB)
this week. This letter calls on the United Nations to #CancelBolsonaro at
the UN General Assembly: http://chng.it/nyK7qN2N . *Please sign on to it as
well!*

These are just a couple of steps steps, but they are critical. With your
support, we can expand the pressure on Bolsonaro to keep his hands off
indigenous populations, natural resources, and critical ecosystems.

In solidarity,
Leonel
