<p class="MsoNormal">In this talk, Heikkila will introduce an approach for looking at contentious policy processes by measuring the intensity, sources, and impacts of policy debates. The approach is illustrated through her research on hydraulic fracturing;
she will discuss questionnaire data collected in the spring of 2015 from policy actors involved in hydraulic fracturing debates in Colorado. What factors influence these intense political debates? Why is there such marked polarization? Heikkila will explore
these questions and more, and will look at the role of government, differing priorities, and shared knowledge in these debates. She will conclude with a research agenda for diagnosing contentious policy processes and helping inform policy processes toward
sustainable politics.<o:p></o:p></p>
