River, the Newtown Creek tributary was once the site of some of the darkest
mills of the industrial revolution, including rendering plants, bone blackeners
and acid factories. Plagued by a lengthy history of environmental degradation
and neglect and now home to massive multinational corporations including
ExxonMobil, BP, National Grid and Amoco, the Newtown Creek continues as a
critical industrial zone for the city of New York.</p>
