(Apologies if you get this 3 times)
SPNers:
Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Institute for Sustainable Enterprise’s Sustainable Business Incubator, in Madison, N.J. is having its second big conference, May 19-21, called “Jumpstarting the Green Economy.” See http://greenventuresconference.org. The one last year had 200 attendees. They’re shooting for 400 this time.
The objective of the conference is clearly transformational. There’s also going to be a green jobs fair, etc. (I’ve heard of a “few” people “in transition” looking for an entry into green work.)
Anyway, as a Research Fellow there, I’m charged with recruiting for a panel that would take place May 21 at 10 AM, and explore the following.
I’ve been thinking about the fuzzy line way past where company investments are clearly cost-effective, beyond even where enlightened self-interest plays a role (e.g. increased employee morale), to whether there is an argument, and evidence, for an active, explicit, needed, perhaps motivated role for business in addressing our environmental and social problems.
I’ve sometimes heard echoes of these ideas at SPN forums and in conversations with sustainable business consultants--and sometimes they have been totally rejected--but think it would be beneficial to confront this.
Are there people with views on this subject interested in being on such a panel? The Conference, I am told, has recently gained remote A.V. capability, so you don’t have to physically be there.
If interested, we would have to decide by next week. If we agree to this you’d have to get me your basic bio, etc. by then, too. I may use your ideas, including subthemes, in the panel title and/or description. We could certainly work out other details later.
I’ve also been asked to try to assemble a second panel on the business opportunities of ecosystems management. The timing for this one during the 3 days is less clear, and I’m going to have to de-prioritize it for right now. Still, it might be doable if worked out in early May.
Let me know.
Regards,
Matt
