Greenwash: a term used to describe the practice of companies disingenuously spinning their products and policies as environmentally friendly, such as by presenting cost cuts as reductions in use of resources. It is a deceptive use of green PR or green marketing. (wikipedia.com)

We are very fortunate to have Alan Ball and Maryanne Conlin give a presentation on “What not to do” and their experience with what they have seen over the years. Their presentation will examine such things as what it will take to bring honesty, accuracy, accountability and transparency to the marketplace and how it affects your marketing. Are manufacturers truly that misleading or is a lot of what’s being called “greenwash” in the eye of the beholder. Where is the accountability for all these products and businesses making such green claims?
Alan Ball, former Director of Business Services at Qualcomm and Manager, Procurement of Qualcomm Incorporated. Alan Ball was Qualcomm’s point person on Global Warming and the Director of Facilities in charge for LEED certification.
Maryanne Conlin has extensive experience in new product development, marketing communications, social media marketing, and strategic branding, as well as, in integrating sustainable business practices into marketing programs. She is the lead writer for Ecopreneurist and Inspired Economist. She spent 20 years in corporate marketing, including stints in a variety of both start-up and Fortune 500 companies, most recently as Director of Marketing for a division of a several billion dollar multi-national.
Sustainability: A Core Qualcomm Value?
In the early 1990s, the Qualcomm Real Estate and Facilities (QREF) team began incorporating energy saving strategies into all of their buildings. To date, they have completed more than 130 projects that improve energy efficiency and reduce green house gas emissions from their operations.
