The New York Solar Energy Society presents:

Solar in the City: Episode III – We're in Hot Water

Thursday, October 22, 2009 • 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
New York University • Stern School of Business
44 W 4th St., Rm 1 70 in the Henry Kaufman Management Center

Solar Hot Water is the misunderstood cousin of solar PV, yet this
simple technology has worked reliably for over a hundred years. The
costs are minimal, and can be recouped in less time than solar PV due
to superior efficiency.
This panel will explore the opportunities for solar hot water and
heating, provide insight on available technolo‐gies and costs, and
discuss financing options.

The Solar Panel:
Tracy Fitz, LEED AP, Founder, City Solar
Jeff Perlman CEM, LEED, President and founder, BrightPower
Tate Rider, Senior Project Manager, Renewable Energy, NYC Economic
Development Corporation
Doug A. Wilke, Wilke Architects and Engineering
Moderator: Kiku Loomis, NYC Events Director, NYSES

Suggested Donation: NYSES members: $10 / $15 for non‐members. RSVP
to wyldon1 at gmail.com

•
Solar thermal technology • How do solar hot water systems work?
Solar thermal is 100 year old technology, but new types of solar ther‐
mal systems are being developed every day. We will review the
different technologies available. • Solar hot water or solar thermal
around the globe •
Solar hot water is widely used around the globe and Hawaii. Why not
here? • The solar thermal business case for residential and small to
medium sized businesses and ROI •
Solar financing, existing incentives, barriers to growing solar
thermal and ways to overcome these challenges Who should attend?
Members of the New York Solar Energy Society, members of the American
Solar Energy Society, members of the International Solar Energy
Society, members of other renewable energy organizations, solar
energy professionals,
engineers, green building professionals, architects, construction
professionals, building owners, consultants, ur‐ban planners,
students.

The New York Solar Energy Society (NYSES) promotes solar and other
renewable through public outreach and
education. It is a source of sound technical knowledge and provides a
