*THE CALIFORNIA SUSTAINABILITY ALLIANCE*
*NOW ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS*
*FOR THE 2009 SUSTAINABILITY SHOWCASE AWARDS*
**
*Sacramento, CA – September 15, 2009* --The California Sustainability
Alliance, a market transformation program managed by Navigant Consulting,
Inc. (NYSE: NCI), is currently accepting nominations for its 2009
Sustainability Showcase Awards. Now in its second year, the Sustainability
Showcase Awards recognizes the successful sustainable policies, programs,
practices and technologies implemented by leading organizations.
This year, the Alliance is seeking leaders in sustainability in five areas:
Commercial Buildings, Multi-Family Housing, Local Government, Water
Agencies, and Sellers of Other Products and Services. Nominations are
currently being accepted and will be received until midnight on October 30,
2009. The winning entries will be announced on the Alliance’s website on
December 1, 2009.
Winners in each category will be honored at the California Sustainability
Alliance Showcase Awards Luncheon to be held in February 2010 and will be
featured in showcases on the Alliance’s website. Of the five winning
organizations, the organization that best exemplifies a comprehensive
adoption of sustainability policies and practices in all aspects of its
business and operations will be announced as the grandprize winner at the
awards luncheon and featured in a video documentary highlighting its
successes.
The successful strategies of last year’s Sustainability Showcase winners,
Inland Empire Utilities Agency, Thomas Properties Group and the University
of California, are documented on the Alliance’s website.

*ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: *
The California Sustainability Alliance program is focused on environmental
sustainability. We are presently seeking nominations for our web-based
Showcase, in which we feature organizations that best exemplify
"comprehensive adoption of holistic sustainability." For purposes of
the Alliance's Showcase:
1 - "Comprehensive" adoption means that the organization embraces many types
of sustainability measures, including but not limited to: energy efficiency,
water efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction, renewable energy development,
smart planning & growth (e.g., compact, transit-oriented development),
increased recycling & reuse (water, equipment, materials, etc.), reduction
of solid waste, use of low-VOC supplies & materials, etc.
2 - "Holistic" adoption means that the organization itself is sustainable,
that it also makes &/or delivers sustainable products and services to its
customers, and that it helps accelerate adoption of sustainability by others
(e.g., elected officials, suppliers, etc.)
We have issued announcements about this solicitation to a wide range of
industry associations and trade press. I am resisting directly inviting any
organization to apply because I do not want to incorrectly convey any sense
of preference. I will not be serving as a judge - selection will be made by
multistakeholder committees of individuals from both the public and private
sectors that are knowledgeable about the sustainability practices in each of
the following targeted sectors:
*Commercial Buildings*: Any organization whose primary mission involves
ownership and management of one or more commercial properties in
California.
*Multi-Family Housing*: Organizations that own and operate portfolios of
multi-family housing in California.
*Local Government*: Cities, counties, joint powers authorities, special
districts or other types of local governmental entities formed and operated
pursuant to California state law that have a role in implementing
California’s environmental policies.
Note: In acknowledging the diverse population sizes across cities and
counties across California, the Alliance will select a finalist from local
government nominations in each of the following categories:
- Small cities or counties (with populations up to 35,000 persons)
- Medium cities or counties (populations greater than 35,000, but less
than 100,000 persons)
- Large cities or counties (populations greater than 100,000 persons)
*Water Agency*: Water and wastewater utilities that provide wholesale and/or
retail services to California residents and businesses.
*Seller of Other Products or Services*: Any organization licensed by the
state of California to distribute or sell products or services within the
state.
