Program Associate - Conservation Finance/
Conservation Research Programs
The Open Space Institute protects scenic, natural and historic
landscapes to ensure public enjoyment, conserve habitats, and sustain
community character. OSI achieves its goals through land acquisition,
conservation easements, special loan programs, creative partnerships,
and analytical research.
Position Summary
Through its Conservation Finance Program (CFP), the Open Space Institute
seeks to facilitate protection of selected landscapes in the eastern
United States by making available grant and loan capital to the region's
land trusts. Through its Conservation Research Program (CRP), OSI seeks
to develop and disseminate information about promising conservation
financing and management practices.
The Program Associate will work closely with the Executive Vice
President, Credit Director, Field Coordinators and Conservation Research
Manager to facilitate communication within and between the programs, and
further programmatic goals through a variety of monitoring, reporting,
and planning-related responsibilities.
The Program Associate will have the opportunity to learn about
conservation and environmental issues, and work with various staff with
extensive experience in business, finance, law, forestry and
development.
Primary Responsibilities
* Loan and Grant Development, Monitoring and Administration
* Process applications and maintain records; loan and
grant pipeline, database and credit history
* Assist in developing materials and manage scheduling for
Credit Committee and Advisory Committee meetings
* Manage loan monitoring in concert with Accounting
Department and Credit Director; progress towards repayment, fulfillment
of loan agreement requirements, and creation of Allowance for Loan Loss
* Facilitate communication between OSI remote staff in
North Carolina and Maine
* Development of Research Products
* Help with project budgeting and act as liaison with
Accounting Department
* Support the Research Manager in developing materials for
Research Committee and Board meetings
* Organize and maintain files on research projects
* Plan and, as needed, implement meetings and conferences
with field leaders
* Maintain database of consultants, track payments,
contract requirements and schedule meetings
* Communications and Fundraising
* Coordinate update of departmental web material
* Draft and assist in distribution of departmental press
releases, email blasts, powerpoint presentations, grant reports, and
funding proposals
* Maintain and coordinate timeline of departmental
communication products
* Develop and maintain department mailing lists
* Help organize events and meetings with funders
Skills/Core Competencies
* Required
* Excellent organizational skills;
* Ability to prioritize numerous ongoing projects;
* Computer mastery in Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe;
* Ability to work to reasonable deadlines and plan
accordingly;
* Ability to work cordially and professionally with all
levels of staff;
* Detail oriented
* Desirable:
* Familiarity with databases;
* Familiarity with Photoshop and In Design;
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
* Minimum of two years work experience;
* Nonprofit work experience with environmental organization
desirable;
* Proven ability to use good judgment and take initiative;
* Demonstrated capacity for teamwork.
