Dear SPN friends,

Urban Green Council invites you to attend our upcoming NYC Green Codes Task
Force Education Series events.

On February 1st Urban Green Council submitted the NYC Green Codes Task Force
report <http://www.urbangreencouncil.org/greencodes> to Mayor Bloomberg and
Council Speaker Quinn- arguably the most sophisticated and comprehensive
analysis of building codes ever conducted by a municipality. The Task Force
was charged with recommending green changes to the laws and regulations
affecting buildings in New York, bringing them to the next level. The 111
recommendations largely impact new construction and renovations, many of
them removing current impediments to green practices.

The proposals affect building codes as well as other codes, such as zoning,
health, consumer affairs, and environmental protection - resulting in
greener, healthier buildings for all New Yorkers. Received to critical
acclaim <http://www.urbangreencouncil.org/resources/newsroom> , the Task
Force report is now being reviewed in detail by the Mayor¹s Office and
Speaker¹s Office.

Please join Urban Green for a series of educational programs that will
analyze the details of the most important and technically challenging
proposals of the NYC Green Codes Task Force.

Session 2 Building Envelopes 7/15/10, 6-8pm

This session will examine the technical challenges to realizing four of
these proposals and include case studies of projects that have successfully
implemented similar systems to those that would be required. The proposals
that will be discussed are EF03 Limit Heat Loss Through Exterior Walls, EF04
Promote Super-Insulated Exterior Walls, EF07 Minimize Air Leakage Through
Building Exteriors, and EF05 Allow External Insulation Beyond Zoning Limits.

Session 3 Building Energy Systems 7/29/10, 6-8pm

This session will discuss a selection of proposals that address boilers,
chillers, and controls and examine the technical challenges to their
successful implementation. The proposals to be discussed will cover
increased efficiency for larger systems (EE 5 - Improve Efficiency of
Boilers & Heating Distribution Systems and EE 6 - Increase Efficiency of
Large Cooling Systems) and improved monitoring and control of building
systems (EE 10 - Reduce Overheating in Apartments, EE 12 - Provide
Ventilation Air Only as Needed in Large Spaces, and EO4 - Automate Tracking
of Building Energy Use).
