INSTRUCTORS
 
Gary Liss <https://www.linkedin.com/in/garyliss>  - A leading advocate of
Zero Waste, Mr. Liss has helped more communities develop Zero Waste plans
than anyone else in the U.S. Mr. Liss is president of Gary Liss &
Associates, vice-president of the U.S. Zero Waste Business Council and
Certifications Committee chair of the Zero Waste International Alliance. He
is currently working with Underwriters Laboratories to develop a Zero Waste
Standard for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). A co-founder
and past president of the National Recycling Coalition, he currently serves
as Boardmember and Secretary. He is also a founder and Boardmember of Zero
Waste USA and a member of the Zero Waste Brain Trust. A Certified Zero
Emissions Research & Initiatives (ZERI) System Designer, in 2005 Mr. Liss
went through extensive training with Gunter Pauli. He served on the Town
Council in his hometown of Loomis, CA and was Mayor in 2010. He has a Master
of Public Administration degree from Rutgers University and Bachelor in
Civil Engineering from Tufts University.
 
Portia M. Sinnott <https://www.linkedin.com/in/portiamsinnott/>  - A Zero
Waste and data management specialist, in 1989 Ms. Sinnott initiated,
co-designed and taught the San Francisco State University Extended Education
Integrated Waste Management Certificate Program. Recent projects include
three USEPA contracts: she led the Zero Waste Resource Guide and Zero Waste
Assessment Framework and co-led the Zero Waste Franchise Project. Also
secondary co-author and data manager for UN Habitat¹s 2010 Solid Waste
Management in the World's Cities publication. She serves as Program Director
for Zero Waste USA, Editor/Registrar for the Northern California Recycling
Association, and Executive Director of LITE Initiatives - the sustainable
practices group that operates Zero Waste Sonoma County and Community Bikes.
On behalf of all these groups, Ms. Sinnott is the convener of the Zero Waste
Brain Trust, which collects data and reports on Zero Waste initiatives, and
organizes brainstorms, stakeholder meetings and projects focused on the
transition to a world without waste.
