Good afternoon,

The Earth Institute's Research Program on Sustainability Policy and Management invites you to Sustainability Measurement in China: Fostering a Race to the Top<https://events.columbia.edu/cal/event/eventView.do?b=de&calPath=%2Fpublic%2Fcals%2FMainCal&guid=CAL-00bbdcc6-60c590ed-0160-c75d1b4c-000012aeevents@columbia.edu&recurrenceId=> on Tuesday, January 30th, at 6:00pm at Columbia University.

Moderated by Satyajit Bose, lecturer at Columbia's School of Professional Studies and associate director of the Research Program on Sustainability Policy & Management, this event will explore the importance of a standardized system to assess sustainability at the local level, as well as the value of measuring a broad but transparent set of indicators to encourage cities to begin a race to the top in sustainability performance. The event will introduce a new urban sustainability framework and annual ranking of the sustainability performance of Chinese cities, and will discuss how such systems can complement China's local policymaking, the balance between the state and the private sector, as well as sustainable development in China more broadly. Panelists will include:

* Weiping Wu, Professor and Director, Urban Planning Program, Columbia's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation

* Jonathan Krane, Founder & CEO of KraneShares

* Dong Guo, Associate Research Scholar and Director of the Earth Institute China Initiative

The event will be followed by a reception with wine, beer and hors d'oeuvres.
